On the 1 September 1998 a reasearch project based in the surveying
department of the Universityof Salford began. The piece of work,
funded by EPSRC, will run for 9 months during which a feasability
study into the nature and extent to which accessible environments are
considered at the briefing stage of design of buildings.
The objectives of the piece of work are:
To measure the applicability of the results from current research
into briefing at the University to briefing on accessible
environments.
To model the briefing process as it currently applies to accessible
environments.
To suggest how current practice in briefing may be improved.
To suggest a framework for taking the research forward
The research will focus on the consideration given to accessible
environments by architects at the briefing stage and try to encourage
building designers to reflect on their understanding, ethical
position and the promotion of accessible environment issues.
The research team is made up as follows
Marcus Ormerod, Andrew Lewis, Rita Newton and Peter Barrett. Marcus
is responsible for the successful completion of the research and
Andrew has been appointed as the Research Assistant.
As well as conducting the above research video conferencing
equipment is being used to enable Andrew to carry out the majority of
the work from his home in Mid Wales.
