Borrowing from Alex, one might imagine a simple guideline for the
creation of an Event Authority Record (lets just call it an Event
Record?)
An Event Record
Descriptive information about an event (past, present, or future) that
is the basis for discovery of the purpose, location, duration,
responsible agents, and links to other events and resources related to
the present event.
I tried this for DC-6, and found some interesting questions:
- Is there no identifier? it does not point to a tangible resource,
after all
- Coverage... is this where one might put the location of the event,
if it has a discreet location?
- Does this creates a new set of relation types, or can we use ones we
have?
Is it likely to be useful as a convention for event description? I
would think so.
Does it offer any better prospects for retrieval than if the event
surrogate is simply the homepage? Only to the extent that I might
restrict retrieval to [Type = Event] and expect a list of events to be
returned.
Is there an existing structured event record that might guide us (or
save us from reinventing another wheel)?
What does the MARC Community Information Record tell us? vCalendar?
