***** Don't send email-attachments to Mailbase lists************
Some email programs can send non-text files, such as a word-processed
documents,or computer programs, via email. These are called attachments.
You shouldn't normally send attachments to Crit-Geog-Forum.
A lot of people will be unable to read them, either because their
email program can't decode them, or because they don't have the
right word processing software to read them after they have
been decoded. You should also be aware that a lot of people receive
email on a central computer, or through small private accounts where
storage space is limited, and an attached file can mean they run out
of space and cannot receive any more email. In the case of private
accounts this can sometime means they are charged more money!!!
Instead of sending attachments, you could do one of the following:
*Send a message to the list offering to post an attached file to anyone
who wants a copy (sending attachments to an individual is acceptable)
*Put the file on your local web or ftp server and post the URL to the list
*If the file is small, copy the text into your email message. Everyone can read
plain text messages.
*Ask Denis Linehan or Adam Tickell to put the document on Critical Geography
Forum On-line, which has lots of web-space to help you promote and
distribute your work. For example see:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/crit-geog-forum/files/shell.htm
Some email programs can send encoded messages, which are unreadable
until decoded, and some can format your email as an HTML page.
Please turn these options OFF before sending messages to Mailbase.
