To quote from David Robinson (CC) on the mechanism
" The RSG approved
in principle the issue of the extra fields, we need to approve a new
product descrption stressing that the abbreviations and comments
apply only to the subset. We do not release comments. It was felt
that in future changes to the structure should be part of a
strategy, and not adhoc, which seems fair enough.
Paul Amos has identified Fourbyte users, I will be writing to them
regarding the impure synonyms and a one off map. We are getting there
slowly!
