Dear Mike: I have always say that there is a difference betqween a head
injury (traumatic brain damange) and an injury to the face. If a patient
has not been unconcious has no post-traumatic amnesia and has a normal
Glasgow Coma Scale and is orintated that patient may have a facial injury
as in your case or a scalp injury i.e. cut bruise but not a traumatic brain
injury hence there is no contraindication for analgesia.
This is a typical example of overcautioness by trainers and some paramedic
colleagues. In Guly's paper it was in these instances that the crews did
not use analgesia. It is only through education that we will be able to
remove these prejudices.
Please tell your WTO to contcat me so that I can have a little talk.
Carlos
