Dear Metadata Experts,
I am seeking your invaluable comments on a web-based questionnaire form
that I design for a survey on the use of metadata. The form is available
at http://ils.unc.edu/metadata. Your comments and suggestions are highly
appreciated.
I am a doctoral student at the School of Information and Library Science
at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Under the guidance of
my advisor, Dr. Jerry D. Saye, I am conducting a survey on the use of
metadata for describing web resources (especially web pages). My
dissertation will largely depend on the results of this investigation.
Thus, I am asking your help by expressing your comments on this
instrument.
The purpose of this investigation is twofold: (1) to explore whether or
not a web author or creator will be willing to make some extra effort to
attach descriptive metadata to his/her work, and (2) to evaluate if that
metadata will be useful. Although it is believed that the use of metadata
will improve the efficiency of the discovery of web resources, the success
of this approach does highly rely on the willingness of the web authors or
creators to provide descriptive metadata for their web pages as well as on
the quality of the metadata provided by authors. It remains to be tested
whether web authors or creators will be willing to provide descriptive
metadata for their work and how good or useful that metadata would be.
The intention of this survey is to search the answers to these two
questions.
Thank you very much for your help in advance.
Best regards,
