Absolutely! I agree with your understanding of the semantics,
but make the observation that but in many cases an *event* will
be "about" the dates + times on which it occurs - ie the
occurrence of the event at a particular time will be the
appropriate information for "coverage" ... possibly in repetition
with some other dates if the conference concerns a historical
period, etc etc
