I'm looking for PT treatment for writing tremor - can anyone help?
Writing tremor (primary writing tremor or PWT) is a task specific tremor
interfering with writing with an average frequency of 4-7 Hz. There is an
abnormal co-contraction in the forearm muscles. PWT is distinguished from
writers cramp due to the absence of presynaptic inhibition. Abnormal
cerebellar activation has been shown, as have changes in the thalamus and red
nuclei. No association with Parkinsons disease has been shown. Alcohol helps
50% of cases and propranolol and primidone are also used. Anticholinergics
are of limited benefit.
I am looking at the possibility of controlling the tremor with EMG biofeedback
- is anyone doing this?
Chris Norris.
