PTChat ... The Clinical Roundtable
Date: TUESDAY, September 1, 1998
Time: 9-10pm EDT (7pm MST)
Topic: Restraint Reduction with Dan & Cathy Ciolek
The "pressure" is on to reduce restraints in all settings. State and Federal
inspectors are citing "imminent harm" in nursing homes more regularly, JCAHO is
focussing on restraint use in acute hospital settings (now among the most
frequent Type I citations). The FDA has determined that bedrails are now
classified as hazardous medical devices.
What do we do to manage patients and residents in the safest manner possible?
Dan and Cathy Ciolek are noted experts in the area of restraint reduction. They
were recently featured in PT Magazine and have co-authored an APTA CEU geriatric
course section on restraint reduction.
