(I have copied this message to lis-clumps. I suggest continuing the
discussion there?)
There is a need for current projects to have something in place. However,
we also want to make sure that invested effort pays off in wider context?
We are happy to organise an activity among the eLib projects
(clumps/hyrbrids/subject gateways/??) which looks at collection
description.
How about a kickoff meeeting at which
- we present an overview of our soon to be completed (sic)
compilation study of collection descriptions
(I include a provisional TOC below - focuses on lib,
archives, 'Internet')
- there is a sharing of information about parallel/related
activities (a summary of which can be reported back
to lists). there are some initiatives underway, or
about to get underway which are in this area
- there is some discussion based on project requirements
of what it would be useful to attempt in eLib context
- a small working group be established to suggest preferred
future approach based on above and carry out any work
identified.
I think it is useful not to attempt to address user profiles at the same
meeting as this might be quite a complicated discussion. I think it would
be sensible if this were a focused meeting looking at what needs to be
done.
Rosemary R will discuss logistics/dates - best on lis-clumps.
Suggest some time in September.
