I have not read Thomas Davenport's book 'Information Ecology',
which is receiving some attention.
I have just come across an interview with him at:
http://www.cause.org/information-resources/ir-library/html/cem9813.html
He says some interesting things about library schools, suggesting they are
among the first to recognise the the need for poeple with a range of
information skills. He talks about their ability to "graduate generic
information professionals" who can "operate across information technology
environments as well as book- and document-oriented environments."
He further notes that library schools are among the first to address
"information issues in holistic ways". He notes the importance of
information skills for lifelong learners.
