The National Maritime Museum at Greenwich is working with the ROADS project team (ANR section of eLib) to set up the NMM Maritime Information Gateway (don't worry - it'll have a snappier name :-) The Gateway will act as first port of call for all those interested in maritime studies.

MARITIME INFORMATION GATEWAY CATALOGUER
6-month contract post
The Information Division, is seeking to appoint a temporary cataloguer for six months to work on the Maritime Information Gateway project. The Gateway will provide an authoritative, online collection of networked resources for maritime studies. Using software purpose-built for maintaining subject-based information services, the postholder will assist with the development of this exciting new project, and will work closely with the Electronic Information Services Manager.
The postholder will locate, assess, organise and describe quality, maritime-related Internet resources, assist with other areas of the Gateway project, and provide support to the Electronic Information Services Manager as and when required.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants must be educated to degree standard. You must also have considerable experience of using the Internet, an awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of networked information, and a good level of computer literacy. An interest in maritime issues, present and historical, would be a distinct advantage, as would previous experience in cataloguing traditional materials. You will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to use your own initiative. You will also be self-motivated, accurate and reliable.
Terms and conditions
The postholder will report to the Electronic Information Services Manager.
You will work a 35-hour week, Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm. The position is available from October 1998 to April 1999
Salary
£10,500 p.a. (pro rata)
