Dear List-members,
I am currently writing a short (600 word) entry for the OXFORD COMPANION
TO ITALIAN LITERATURE ed. D. Robey & P. Hainsworth on 'hagiography'
(the literary genre rather than the literary style). As a specialist in
late medieval and early modern Italian manifestations of the genre, I feel
fairly confident for the period from il '300 al '600/'700, but
considerably less so about the '800/'900. A glance at the current edition
of LIBRI DISPONIBILI IN COMMERCIO reveals countless short individual
lives, mostly written by unknowns for local consumption and devotion, but
are there any works written by recognized literary figures?
Is any list member in a position to help me here?
For example, are there any other examples of novelists
attempting to write lives of saints besides Ignazio Silone's treatment
of the life of Celestine V?
I'd be most grateful of any leads here
Regards
