I have a question.
I am working on a project investigating the role of hypermedia in
qualitative research. This is envisioned as including all stages of
the research, not just the presentational stage. In effect this
requires us to investigate the role of hypermedia in data
analysis/exploration.
Now all the CAQDAS products I am familiar with (Ethnograph, NUD*IST,
ATLAS/ti, Decision Explorer) seem grounded in the idea of coding and
retrieving your data. In particular all the programs seem to embody
various aspects of Grounded Theorizing. Although aspects of data
coding can be simulated using various hypertext models it seems
pointless to use hypertext/media to simulate data coding so the
question becomes what kind of hypermedia approaches can be used in
data exploration.
Just about all the hypertext/media programs I know of totally focus
on presentation and have almost no facility to aid researchers in
analysing their data. So I am wondering several things. Are the
programs out there that do just this? (For example I know ATLAS/ti
has a hyperlink facility integrated into it and the ability to export
to HTML but I don't think it is sufficient to support a fully
fledged hypermedia environment). Also are there other people out
there working on or interested in similar projects?
