Subject: Shortwave for eye problems
Dear list members,
Apologies to everyone if you get more than one of these messages. I
have been having problems with my e-mails being received by the list, so
this is a copy of my previous 2 tries.
Has anyone heard of using shortwave diathermy to treat inflammatory
conditions of the eyelid?
A Russian opthamologist has told me that he prescribes 5 minutes of
shortwave diathermy, daily for 5 days, (?continuous or pulsed) for
Internal Hordeolum conditions - according to my dictionary, this is a
sty, or acute purulent infection of a gland of the eyelid. That is all
I have been able to find out. I tried a search on the internet with no
luck, and my electrotherapy book was no help.
This doctor was unable to give me any references, but apparently this
is a well known method in his country for clearing up the
inflammation. My immediate thought was that the water content in the
vitreous humour (?spelling) might make SWD inappropriate.
Does anyone have any ideas on the appropriateness of SWD, and also the
parameters to set, plus positioning of electrodes etc.
I would be grateful for any comments.
Cathy
