Time for a re-statement of list policy, I think. This list is for
discussion of matters related to electronic/digital libraries in general
and the eLib programme in particular.
To go a bit further, it might be worth mentioning our policy on messages
which result in delivery failures. When a message does not get through to
a recipient, we (the list-owners) get a failure message. Where this
message indicates a temporary problem (eg disk quota exceeded, an obvious
re-direction failure, or system down), we ignore the messages for a while.
Any persistent messages on delivery failure result in removal of the
person from the list. What's worse, since there is obviously an email
problem on the only address we have, we do this silently and make no
attempt to contact the person then or later.
So if you don't hear from lis-elib for a suspiciously long time, it might
be worth checking you are still a member by sending to
[log in to unmask] a message with the content
review lis-elib
and check the list to see if you are still on it (very long).
Finally, the list has been set up to accept messages only from list
members, in an attempt to reduce spamming. We can't avoid someone joining
the list specifically to spam it, as happened the other day, but we take
action as soon as possible to eliminate this.
Sometimes your email address changes without you realising it. If messages
from you don't get through, but you are still receiving messages from
others, or if you have difficulty getting off the list, send an email to
lis-elib-request and we'll do what we can to help.
