Having been off ill since Easter I only came across the "Webmaster
/ Webmistress" discussion on my return to work. I know my mind is not
quite clear after my illness on which you could perhaps blame the
following:-) . Rather than rename webmasters I have a different
suggestion:
Why can't we accept "master" as an action, and "man" or "men" as being
members of the Hu"man" race and find a new name for the MALES of the world!
- instead of constantly trying to rename all the
general terms we are familiar with :-)
Those who wish to turn the world "PC" usually require new terms for Females
to use or change the familiar "men" phrases into something they can
perceive as genderless.
"Wo men" is usually accepted as (generally) those members of the Human race
with a womb, eg the females of the species. Perhaps someone could provide
a few suggested titles for a member of the human race with something
different :-)......... eg the Males of the race, (PC answers only of
course :-) then we could use "Man" and "Men" as simply a member of the
Human race, and we can keep all the Postmen and Webmasters as they would
then be the general genderless title required. :-)
On that basis Chairman is already correct as for years we addressed them as
Mister Chairman and Madam Chairman (I never understood the need for Madam
Chairperson!)
BTW I am not trying to start any wars here - just adding a new perspective
perhaps? :-)
