The Scottish Cultural Resources Access Network
http://www.scran.ac.uk/
celebrated the 150,000th hit on its website, with a visit from Nigel
Griffiths MP, Minister of State at the UK Department of Trade and Industry.
After discussing the project in some detail and trying out the resource
base and several SCRAN educational products, Mr Griffiths said:
"150,000 visitors is impressive for a website that's only been going for
10 months. That means a greater daily hit rate than some national
newspapers!"
"SCRAN seems to be addressing the Copyright conundrum very successfully by
providing a means for museums to earn a fair return on the commercial use
of their intellectual property, while offering teachers and learners
unrestricted educational access."
"I'm impressed by the way a project like SCRAN creates employment: up to
100 full-time equivalent posts throughout the country, I'm told. "
"I particularly like the way consumers are being involved in the design
and evaluation of SCRAN products and services. It's so important to
ensure that New Technology does useful things in a useable way."
