IMS seems mainly about establishing a way of trading sections of
courseware. This means describing it (hence the adoption of metadata based
on Dublin core), making in transferable (I think they term it
containerisation), and establishing a way of brokering. The metadata link
is the most obvious connection.

I work with EEVL and ANRs should perhaps consider this as evidence that
metadata might start to be used more. The more imaginative link is to think
what needs to be offered when brokering starts - i.e. solid descriptions,
indexing, searching and matching.
