Dear Peter,
Where have I heard all the good news about how HCFA was going to simpllfy my
life. Anyone remember why we have the HCFA 1500 form, that was one attempt
that is a classic example that ALL third party payers still demand DIFFERENT
uses altho it was supposed to solve our problems. Our workers comp and others
did not comply.
As for electronic billing, we have been doing so for some time, hasn't help
speed up reimbursements and the other day we were informed that Medicare plans
to hold all bills an additional wk or so and send out fewer checks as a cost
savings activity. Does anyone think HCFA has the staff to authorize, certify,
track CPT's etc. etc.? Where is this quick system coming from and when will
it be "on line"? Has anyone timed responses now? Guess maybe the patient
will have expired before we can see them. That would help resolve the $1500
cap wouldn't it! That again is Another issue we have going, isn't it?
As for a universal pin #. I already have a unique # as do all of us, our
state license #, I see a redesign in forms and software coming which will
add to our cost base. Sorry I'm not excited at the prospect but doubt we
have any choice . Gad, don't you just love our government?!
By the way, what ever happened to resolving the supervision issue for
Independent Physical Therapy practice? That has been in the hopper for over 3
years and has gone unresolved.
