Steve,
I have the same problem as you and have found that physiotherapy is most
beneficial.
Currently I am having gentle mobilisations to the neck and have a
substantial home programme of exercises aimed at strengthening the muscles
supporting my neck.
After 2 months of physiotherapy I am sigificantly improved, my neurological
signs are diminished.
My recommendation is that you give treatment a go, check you work posture,
participate in a home programme and if you are getting better delay surgery.
good luck
