The alternative titles I've seen suggested in the past also had gender
overtones, e.g. WebWizard. However, I think there are two meanings to the
word 'master'. One, the gender-specific one, traditionally meant a boy not
yet old enough to be referred to as 'mister'. The second, non gender-
specific IMHO, is that of someone who has mastered a skill. We quite
happily award degrees of Master of Arts or Master of Science to men and
women alike because it is meant in this latter sense.
