Study tour for academic librarians to Germany, 28 June to 5 July 1998
This study tour will give UK academic librarians a chance to visit a
number of German university libraries and to discuss current issues with
German colleagues, such as modern library buildings, the integration of
electronic and print media, and organisational challenges. The tour will
include visits to libraries in Munich, Regensburg and Eichstätt, the
National Library of Germany in Frankfurt, and the university libraries
in Göttingen and Halle (Saale). It is jointly organised and sponsored by
the Goethe-Institut, the British Council in Cologne, the
Generaldirektion der Bayerischen Staatlichen Bibliotheken, the Ministry
of Education and Cultural Affairs of the federal state of
Sachsen-Anhalt, the Foreign Relations Office of the German Library
Institute and the participating libraries.
Participants will come from middle or senior management positions and
have an interest in international co-operation as well as in library
buildings. Some knowledge of German would be useful, but all
presentations and guided tours will be in English.
Participants will have to pay their own travel expenses to Germany (to
Munich, back from Halle/Leipzig) and a fee of £250 which includes
accommodation, full board and travel within Germany.
