The IMPEL2 project (http://ilm.unn.ac.uk/impel) has been maintaining a database
of literature references relating to the electronic library and its educational
and organisational context (http://www.unn.ac.uk/cgi-bin/search_impel) and in
recent months I and colleagues involved in electronic services development at
the University of Northumbria have also been contributing to this.
The IMPEL project is winding down and it seems a shame if the database were to
be no more. Though the content largely duplicates material in the LISA and
INSPEC databases there may be a role for something that has a focus in
isolating the more important printed and Web published material of interest to
those developing electronic library services.
I would be interested to know:
- has the database been of use to those outside the IMPEL project?
- would an updated and enhanced one have value?
- and if so, would people be willing to identify content? It may be
something the hybrid library projects might like to be involved in.(The
HyLiFe team at UNN would contribute.)
If it were to continue it would be coordinated from UNN, with clear guidelines
for contributors. However, there must be a declared need and some
quantification of staff resources first.
