SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICERS/RESEARCH FELLOWS: CITIES, COMPETITION AND
COHESION Applications are invited for four research posts on two
projects in the ESRC Cities: Competition and Cohesion Programme which
are being undertaking jointly in these departments, all starting on
1st April 1998 or as soon as possible thereafter.
LONDON: ECONOMIC COMPETITION, SOCIAL COHESION AND THE POLICY
ENVIRONMENT 2 posts (one for 2 years at Essex (ref: R/294) and one for
2.5 years at Reading) to undertake social and/or economic analyses of
processes of change, and related policy issues in London through a
combination of secondary data analysis and locally based fieldwork in
selected neighbourhoods. Both of the posts will require a combination
of quantitative and qualitative research skills, together with a
strong grounding in urban studies. This is a team project, also
involving staff at LSE and University College, London, where 2 further
research officers will be appointed in 1999.
DOES SPATIAL CONCENTRATION OF DISADVANTAGE CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIAL
EXCLUSION 2 posts (one for 2 years at Essex (ref: R/295) and one for 1
year at Reading) to undertake statistical analyses of the effects of
spatial concentrations of disadvantaged population groups on
socio-economic outcomes, using both aggregate and disaggregate data.
Both posts will require strong statistical skills: experience of
longitudinal and/or multi-level modelling would be very desirable for
the Essex post, and of spatial analysis for the Reading post.
Appointments will be made on the Grade 1A scale for research staff,
