Two items concerning residence abroad:
1. As a result of collaboration between Oxford Brookes University
and the University of Portsmouth, The National Residence Abroad
Database is now taking shape on the WWW and is visible at:
http://lara.fdtl.ac.uk/lara/nradabout.htm
So far, the major element is the searchable database bringing
together those paragraphs from the HEFCE QA reports that contain any
reference to residence abroad. The entries are searchable either under
any of twenty specified topics or under your own selected keyword,
e.g. ERASMUS, so that you can build up a picture of the practice
across the sector, at least to the extent that the assessors noted it.
There are also, however, an announcement board on which details of
workshops, conferences, etc. will be posted and a discussion forum
which gives you the opportunity to air your views on any matter
connected with residence abroad.
The next major development will be the database of current practice,
making available the information provided in the questionnaires sent
to all language departments last December. Many thanks, therefore, to
all those who took the trouble to fill in and return the
questionnaires. If you haven't had one and would like to make sure
information about your courses is included on the database, contact
[log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]
2. The leaflet/booking form for the four regional workshops being
organised by the Lancaster, Oxford Brookes and Portsmouth FDTL
projects (Salford 29 April, UWE Bristol 7 May, Northumbria 13 May,
Institute of Education London 15 May) mentioned by Jim Coleman in his
email of 5 March is now available and copies have been sent to all
language departments. If you have difficulty in tracking one down,
