The MSc & Postgraduate Diploma in Health Ergonomics is a course for
Design Engineers, Safety Personnel, Physiotherapists, Environmental
Health Officers, Medical Practitioners and Scientists and Engineers in
other areas. The course comprises 12 five day long modules of which 3
are compulsory "core" modules. A total of 8 modules are required to be
completed successfully to qualify for the Postgraduate diploma. A
further Research module and dissertation will lead to the award of an
MSc. The Diploma and MSc are to be completed within 3 and 4 years of
registration, respectively.
The modules, which include Anthropometry and workplace design,
biomechanics and physiology, Psychological issues in work, Ergonomics
methods, Measuring health and illness, Musculoskeletal disorders, Work
and stress, Accidents, human error and system design, Disability and
rehabilitation, Environmental ergonomics and Occupational Health and
Safety, can be taken singly as "stand alone" 5 day courses.
Alternatively, the centre runs a 5 day Basic Ergonomics course 3 times a
year at Guildford and, additionally, at other sites off campus if
required. This course, which includes the option of taking a British
Institute of Occupational Hygienists' exam, aims to develop an
understanding of how ergonomics principles can create safer, healthier
and more efficient workplaces. It covers anthropometry, ergonomics
methods, musculoskeletal disorders, the workplace, job and product
design, the environment, legal and social aspects.
