Just for starters: Paget Toynbee's _Dante in English Literature from
Chaucer to Cary (c. 1380-1844)_ (London, Methuen: 1909), despite its
venerable age, still has no rival (as far as I know!) as a collection of
primary references to Dante in the period; and there's a good recent study
by Robin Kirkpatrick, _English and Italian Literature from Dante to
Shakespeare: A Study of Source, Analogue, and Divergence_ (London & New
York: Longman, 1995).
