The latest new resource which has just gone up on Biz/ed is one of the
most extensive we have ever developed. It is called the Cameron Balloons
Virtual Factory. It is based around Cameron Balloons - the largest hot-
air balloon manufacturer in the world.
In the virtual factory, you can take a tour around seeing the different
areas, there is a glossary of ballooning jargon, there is a breakdown of
the cost of each component of a balloon and there is the main section -
the factory floor.
You navigate around the factory floor, by clicking on the relevant area
of a factory plan. Under each section (purchasing, production, design,
acccounts and marketing) there is a wide range of resources. There are
several worksheets, there are photos and questions, there is a focus on
a key member of staff in that area, there is an explanation of that
business function and there are also details of the key business studies
theories relating to that area.
All of this is supplemented by a full teacher's guide with advice on how
to use the factory. It should be particularly suitable for A-level
Business Studies and GNVQ, but there are also sections that may be
useful for A-level Economics. It would also be particularly suitable for
joint Economics and Business courses like the Nuffield course.
Please do try it and let us know what you think. Either e-mail your
comments to me direct, or contact [log in to unmask]
