Cheryl McEwan's message was misleading about the situation at Southampton.
Southampton University has not been greylisted by AUT, nor are there any
currently any proposals to do so. Readers in the forum should feel happy
about applying for one of the three jobs recently advertised (details from
me if needed).
The situation at Southampton is that the university management and the
Southampton Local AUT are discussing proposals to extend the period of
probation to up to six years (in line with a set of broader moves within
the CVCP). Under these proposals, people could come off probation early.
SLAUT is confident that the university will come back with some serious
modifications to their proposals.
