Patrick,
With regards to your inquiry about evidenced based practice, the following
references should be helpful to you in addition to the recommendations
that you have received from other list members:
Fuhrer, MJ. (1997). Assessing Medical Rehabilitation Practices: The
Promise of Outcomes Research. Baltimore: Paul H. Brookes Publishing Co.
(ISBN 1-55766-274-6)
and the Institute of Medicine report:
Enabling America: Assessing the Role of Rehabilitation Scinece and
Engineering, 1997 (ISBN 0-309-06374-4), hardbound $47.95
(in addition, an Executive Summary of the full report is available by
calling 800-624-6242 or faxing 202-334-2451)
In addition, I highly recommend that you consider attending the 75th
Annual American Congress of Rehabilitation Conference that will be held
Nov. 8-10 in Seattle. The title of the confernce is: "Evidence Based
Rehabilitation: Building Bridges Between Payers, Providers, and
Custormers". As the title suggests, the focus of the 75th Congress will
be on evidenced based rehabilitation and the implications of the Institute
of Medicine report will be highlighted. An all day session will focus on
a 4-step approach to evidenced based practice. I will be posting a Call
for Abstracts to the list later this week. Abstracts are due 4/15/98. Of
note, abstracts are accepted in two categories: 1) research presentations
and 2) descriptions of "innovative practice". For more information, you
can access the ACRM website at http://www.acrm.org/ or e-mail me if you
have specific questions regarding the program.
With Kind Regards,
Kathy
