I just picked up my mail from the last few days and was interested about
the use of 'massage' for a spastic arm. I may seem naive but have you heard
of SIMM (Specific Inhibitory Mobilisation of Muscle) which looks like
massage from a distance. It basically involves the inhibition of increased
tone through 'rolling' the muscle belly by using the lumbrical grip of the
therapists hand thus creating a stretch to the muscle without activating
the stretch receptors in the tendons (which would increase tone).
I hope this is right and I hope it helps.
If you want more info let me know and I can try and dig out a reference.
