Dear list members
This posting is of relevance to those involved in the dissemination of
scholarly learning: librarians, information users and publishers, as well
as writers in HE and FE.
Now online at the ALCS web site
http://www.alcs.co.uk/declaration1.html
is the draft of the Declaration drawn up by writers in academia and those
interested in academic writing and publication (including representatives
of the eLib programme).
This document was initiated at the one-day Consultation organised by the
Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS) in London last November.
It is a statement of the issues and proposals relating to the creation,
distribution, ownership and economics of scholarly information that
delegates felt should be discussed by the wider academic, publishing and
user communities.
ALCS welcomes list members' comments on the draft (by 13 March 1998,
please). The final version of the Declaration will be launched in April
1998. Thereafter, suggestions for ALCS's future work on behalf of academics
arising from the Declaration and the London Consultation will be reviewed
in collaboration with appropriate organisations.
Please feel free to forward this posting (and the Declaration) to whoever
you feel would be interested.
Thanks in anticipation.
