Am particularly interested to see what you've done with the format element
at:
http://geminfo.org/Workbench/Metadata/Vocab_Format.html
We couldn't find a suitable controlled list for the format element and felt
that format was really just a more specific statement of "type" so decided
not to include it in our prototype (which I won't point everyone to just yet
'cause it's still a little shakey).
We decided to take the opposite approach to the format of the resource -
identifying particular "Technical Requirements" for accessing the resource.
We would have liked to have controlled this, but opted for a free text field
instead.
Basically we just ask those submitting resources to note down any special
requirements either stated by the resource itself or clearly necessary for
access and use. Typical entries are "Requires: Java-enabled browser"
"Requires: Adobe Reader"
Looking at your format vocab, I see you've, in effect, put the type and
format elements together. I think you're quite sensible to treat the format
as a qualifyer of type.
Will let you know when I've overcome my embarrasment about showing off the
prototype!
Best Regards
Grant
