I couldn't agree more
It's all about perception. If there is nothing to hang your hat on
there is a perception that the thing lacks solidity/legitimacy/rigor etc
We know that this is not true of DC but an outsider sees a process which
has been going on for years and still no result!!
Give them something to hang that hat on and perceptions change. DC
suddenly seems real rather than an ephemeral, academic idea.
It would certainly make it easier for me to sell to my customers, our
web page authors.

I also agree that you must have a stake in the sand, otherwise
the dreaded "creeping elegance" will arrive and so will other
standards that may or may not have the rigor that this group has
maintained.
I also agree that version control is needed, and in fact the first
version, be it with all its (perceived) holes, is the main marketing
tool for selling DC to the world.
