Meta2 Folk,
As I prepare the report on Helsinki, there are several missing pieces.
The first two RFCs are in the pipeline, and I think they should be high
on our priority list in the next few weeks, so they can be available
when the workshop report comes out. Please give them your close
attention when they are posted to the list. Minor niggles can be sent
directly to the authors, and major problems should be aired on the list,
though I hope we won't have much at this late date.
In related developments, NISO has approached us about standardizing the
DC, and I'm of the opinion this would be a strong asset for our
community. While NISO is a national standards organization, rather than
an international one, it is a reasonable place to get our feet wet in
the formal standardization process.
NISO balloting of the DC would in no way impugn the international
character of the DC initiative, but would rather be a step towards
broader international recognition and enhanced stability.
There is always a possibility that a NISO member would take issue with
the character or wording of one or more elements, and in such a case,
the interested party would be encouraged to join the DC concensus
building effort to effect change. But consideration and review by NISO
will inform, rather than displace, our concensus-building process.
comments, please?
