Dear Juliet (and others wondering how the system
works)
The HEFCE forms are worded very generally. They are
addressed to specified associations (there is a list)
inviting them to nominate candidates for panel membership.
It is up to the associations to select the panels of
relevance to them. In our case we should therefore be
thinking not just of German but also of European
Studies. The WIGS nomination process will certainly keep
this in mind.
The CUTG, representing (at least in name) ALL teachers of
German, has sent its invitation for nominations to all
(heads of) German departments not just to paid up members.
I hope that explains things a little.
Best wishes
Gisela
