Professor McKinnon at Heriot-Watt has requested this be cross-posted onto UTSG from the logistics-research-network list. My apologies to those who will receive it twice.

Research on Freight Transport and Logistics
Back in May this year I circulated Mailbase (logistics-research-network)
members with details of a new review of research on freight transport and
logistics which we are compiling with financial support from the Freight Transport
Association / Forward Trust. The first issue was published by the
FTA in July and copies widely distributed around academic
institutions, professional associations, private companies and
government. I understand that the entire print run of around 1500
copies is now exhausted.
We are greatly encouraged by the positive feedback we have received
from academic researchers, managers and government officials. It
appears to be serving its function of improving the dissemination
of research results.
In the light of the feedback we have received and subsequent
discussions with the FTA, we have decided to introduce a number of
changes:
1. The Review will now be published every 6 months rather than
quarterly. It was felt that in some quarters there might not
be sufficient material to justify publication.
2. We will extend the coverage to include a broader range of
logistics and supply chain topics. The original intention was to
focus on research with a clear freight transport dimension. While
the review will continue to place a strong emphasis on transport,
research on other logistical activities will also now be featured.
3. Reference will be made to funded research projects currently in
progress as well as to research publications.
4. Future issues of the review will be published on the
Web as well as in booklet form.
We are now working on the second issue which will be appearing in
January 1999. As before, we would like to invite you
to notify us of any publications you have produced over the
past 6 months or of work in progress. This will help to draw your
research to the attention of a wider audience.
We are primarily interested in research results reported in:
- Academic journal articles
- Research reports, books and monographs
- Articles in professional journals
- Conference papers
- PhD and MPhil theses
- Published consultancy reports
- Government reports
- Publications of trade associations, professional institutes
and environmental groups
The review focuses on research conducted within the EU, though
reference will also be made to influential freight transport /
logistics studies undertaken elsewhere in the world.
For each research entry, we include the following information:
Title of the article / report / project
Title of the publication / volume no. / issue no. / date / page numbers.
Researcher's name / organisation / contact details
Brief summary (of 100 - 500 words depending on the length of the
publication)
Publisher (of books)
Cost of the publication
We would prefer to receive this information by email, though faxes
