RESEARCH STUDENTSHIP IN THE APPLICATION OF VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) IN TRANSPORT
We are looking for a suitable person to fill a research studentship for a
PhD for three years starting as soon as possible. The studentship is part
of a Technology Foresight award administered by ESPRC entitled `A Virtual
Research Centre for the Built Environment: Systems to think with for
Research and Training in Construction, Retailing and Transport', which
started in May 1997. The studentship is in the field of the application of
VR in transport. W S Atkins have agreed to top up the award so that it is
more possible for the student to be able to live on it in London.
Discussions with W S Atkins have led to a focusing of the studentship on
linking together transport models with geographical information systems
(GIS) and VR, in particular, linking the SATURN model (a model that
simulates flows of traffic through urban road networks) with GIS and VR.
EPSRC rules mean that the studentship is only open to UK citizens or others
who have been in the UK for 3 years or more for purposes other than
full-time study.
Appropriate computing skills are required but detailed knowledge of
transport modelling is not essential.
