Thanks to both Francisco J. Martinez and David Simmons for their comments
on the Australian Bureau of Transport Economics Working Paper 39, "Urban
transport models: a review", which I had originally described to this list
on 22 November.
I am no expert on these models and I certainly appreciate getting feedback
from those who have knowledge of the state-of-the-art. I hope that others
on the list will share their comments and suggestions for evaluating models
and determining which are best for specific applications. David Simmons
stated that he does not know of any single document that provides a
suitable, up-to-date comparision of models. It would certainly be useful
for somebody to put together such a report, even if it is a relatively
short summary.
Perhaps one of you could write up a few paragraphs describing each type of
model, its history, a list of specific versions, and recommendations as to
the circumstances under which it might be a suitable application, and post
this information on this list for comment by others. That would help
identify issues of agreement and disagreement among modelers, and might
lead to the development of a consensus report.
Sincerely,
