UNIVERSITY OF NORTH LONDON
SEMINAR - TUESDAY 13TH OCTOBER 1998
SOCIALLY NECESSARY RAILWAYS
PRICE £58.00 per delegate (inc coffee, lunch and papers)
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the SONERAIL
seminar on the innovatory approaches concerning the issue of
socially necessary rail service evaluation. SONERAIL is a
European Commission funded research project within the EC’s
4th framework RTD programme.
The overall purpose of SONERAIL is to examine the role of socially
necessary rail services. In particular, it aims to develop
an evaluation methodology which will improve the basis for
decision making on service provision, with the possibility of
enhancing the position of rail, or recommend the use of other
modes to provide the service in question. The need for an
evaluation methodology for this type of rail service is in
reaction to recent trends in the transport industry and EC
policies.
The objectives of the project are to develop the methodology,
apply the methodology, use the results to identify operation
scenarios, and recommend best practice operations. The
project outputs will be the SONERAIL Evaluation Methodology,
evaluation case study results, operation scenarios and best
practice recommendations. The methodology and the SONERAIL
seminar will be of relevance to the European Commission,
Central and Local Government, rail funding organisations,
rail service operators and others.
