Dear Colleagues:
This is to remind you that tomorrow (Wednesday, September 9) is the last
day for submitting abstracts for the session sponsored by the Geo-Institute
Pavements Committee in the upcoming Third National Conference of the
Geo-Institute of ASCE, Geo-Engineering for Underground Facilities.
The conference will be held at the campus of the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign, June 13-17, 1999.
The session is entitled "Characterization of Pavement Geo-Materials"
and will focus mainly on in-situ and also laboratory characterization and
non-destructive evaluation of pavement geo-materials, i.e., subgrade soils
and aggregates used in pavement bases and subbases.
In addition, a poster session to focus on issues related to pavement
foundations is also planned depending upon the level of interest by the
pav_net subscribers in participating this conference. Considering the high
number of attendees (approximately 700) anticipated for this national event,
participation will be very beneficial to the pavements community. We hope
that these sessions will stimulate the technical interaction between pavement
and geotechnical engineering practitioners/researchers and facilitate the
exchange of technical information between the two groups.
Abstracts for these sessions are to be mailed directly to me at the following
address by September 9, 1998 (tomorrow). Electronic submissions are
especially encouraged. All of the papers will be peer-reviewed. At least 4,
possibly 5, papers will be selected for presentation during the session, and
later published in the conference proceedings.
