The European Institute of Oncology (Istituto Europeo di Oncologia)
is an international Institute created for the research and treatment of
cancer and is located in Milan, Italy. An integrated research programme is
being established involving close cooperation between clinical scientists,
basic laboratory scientists and epidemiologists.
The Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics has responsibility for
provision of services in many areas of clinical research and clinical trials
and specifically for the organisation of the Research Liaison Centre, the
hospital-based Cancer Registry, the FIGO Annual Report Data Centre and for
the development of its own international research programme. The twenty
staff of the Division comprise a mixture of epidemiologists and
biostatisticians from seven different countries, and the programme of
activities currently involves active participation with over fifty countries
world-wide. Current research interests include melanoma, breast and prostate
cancer, leukaemia and lymphoma, clinical epidemiology, clinical trials,
chemoprevention and Tobacco Control. Due to a planned expansion of research
activities, there are opportunities available within the Division of
Epidemiology and Biostatistics for Epidemiologists and Biostatisticians at
senior, intermediate and junior levels from 1st January 1999 onwards.
Candidates should have an interest and experience in any one of (a)
Biostatistics, particularly as related to Epidemiological Methodology, (b)
Chronic Disease Epidemiology especially Cancer, or (c) developing and
organising clinical studies within the pharmaceutical industry or CRO's.
