The NSSC is looking for another full-time project assistant to join the =
team in Leicester. Applicants must have an astrophysics background and a =
proven history in science communication. The contract will be initially =
for 7 months and begins asap. There is scope for the role to develop =
after June 1999. I enclose details about the post and the project. =

The National Space Science Centre needs a project assistant with a =
strong background in astrophysics and proven interest/ experience in =
science communication. The project assistant's role is to:

-act as an interface between the academic team and the design team.

-support and administer the academic topic teams and develop the =
storylines they identify for inclusion in the NSSC visitor experience.

Tasks and Skills relating to the Project Assistant

Skills:

Familiarity with Word, especially the use of tables and templates, =
e-mail with attatchments and merging.

Able to use the internet for research using a variety of search tools, =
and able to assess quaility, source and ownership of information =
downloaded.

Able to use initiative in identifying other sources for research.

Able to show appreciation of the knowledge base of target audiences.

Able to work to deadlines.

Able to show ability to have creative ideas in science communication, or =
have previous experience in science communication.

Able to work in a team.

Able to make a good cup of tea.

Administrative and clerical support for topic teams.

Develop information and scientific themes and topics as directed by the =
topic team to provide suitable input for design contractors.

Work with design contractors to supply information on the whereabouts of =
information, images, expert sources, artefacts etc

-to present the excitement and significance of space and planetary =
science, astronomy and technology in a way which captures and inspires =
the public's imagination;

demonstrate its significance to life on Earth in the 21st century.

The post is full-time, starts as soon as possible and will be until June =
1999 in the first instance. Salary between =A314 and 17K per annum =
