that they are so grossly overworked. For some situations PR companies
will no doubt do a good job, however, the idea to get both of them
together, not to have one or the other as has been suggested (even if in
an over simplified arguement).

There seems to be something horribly wrong, well several things to be
honest, with the above "sentence", so I doubt I have understood it
correctly. But here goes.
I am not suggesting that the party of the first part should do everything
without the assistance of the party of the second part, to (mis)quote
Groucho. My point is that scientists and PR types, for want of a better
description, need to work together and to learn from one another.
Yes some scientists who are good at both. Not many though. And that is
understandable. No one has tried to "educate" them until quite recently. Nor
have many considered it something that they should indulge in.
Practising scientists CAN learn to do many things, including running
companies. But not everyone wants to. Nor should they be forced to do so. So
those who want to be involved in PUSET activities but who do not want to
become practitioners should have the opportunity to work with people who are
happy to help them.
