To get back to MKs' original point:
> The good news is that there could well be a natural home for PUSET activity
> in the new developments at the Science Museum at the Queen's Gate Centre.
> But will people overcome their territoriality and unite?
We can but hope.
> When looking at proposals seeking funds, the biggest worry is the sheer lack

And here is the most important point: professionalism. I was at that
meeting, the SWOT slot, was an interesting idea to make people think,
but all rather rushed.
The underlying message of the meeting (which was not really expressed
explicitly) was a call for CoS to be accepted as a profession in its own
right. For some time, I have been calling from within the BA for greater
'professionalism' in CoS. And the BA IS the natural home for a
professional body (it effectively is, but doesn't say so - it would not
be a great leap). If CoS were to be accepted as a true profession,
rather than as something museums do, but the rest have to do it in their
spare time as amateurs, then many of the problems which MK (correctly)
alludes to will be addressed. How can we expect amateurs to be
professional. Some of course, will have high standards, but all the time
the current situation persists, there will be a lot of amateurism.
