Dear colleagues,

Those of you who have been on the mailbase for a while may remember that a
couple of years back we had a discussion regarding podiatry journals, and
their perceived standing in the podiatry community.

If possible, I'd like to revisit that discussion, due to changes in the
mailbase membership, and more importantly, recent changes in podiatry
publication (eg: AJPM, British Journal of Podiatry). Currently, there are
8 journals which could be considered the 'core' source of podiatry /
foot-related information:

1. JAPMA
2. Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery
3. Foot & Ankle
4. The Lower Extremity
5. Australasian Journal of Podiatric Medicine (formerly Australian
Podiatrist and the New Zealand Journal of Podiatric Medicine)
6. The Foot
7. British Journal of Podiatry (formerly JBPM and JBPA)
8. Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery

Our previous discussion highlighted a number of features considered
important to a journal's perceived 'prestige':

1. Inclusion on MEDLINE
2. Multi-disciplinary status
3. Wide readership
4. International content
5. Peer review process
6. Number of citations in other fields

With these ideas in mind, I would like to ask the mailbase to share their
thoughts regarding the current state of podiatry publishing.

Which journals do you subscribe to / read regularly, and why ?

Which journals do you consider the most 'prestigious' or most 'useful' ?

For those of you who regularly publish in scientific journals, what are the
criterai involved in selecting the target journal ?

I accept that there are many other journals which inform the podiatry
community (eg: rehabilitation, diabetes, biomechanics, etc), but if
possible I would like to restrict the discussion to podiatry / foot -
specific publications. I would also particularly like to hear from those
who did not take part in the previous discussion (if preferable, send your
responses to me personally). Please note that this is by no means a formal
discussion and there's no agenda involved - I'm just interested in yout
thoughts.

Thanks for your input.

Regards,

Hylton
