Dear Bob,
I read your papers and follow your mailbase comments with great
interest. For some time now, I've been
interested in the evolutionary aspects of humanity and I can't help but
note that the Laetoli riverbed footprints
appear to be "heel-to-toe". Have often had the same doubts as you
with regard to the forefoot varus deformity.
I was weaned on Wm. Straus' thesis paper and I must confess he is most
convincing, at least regarding the
origin of hindfoot varus. If the frontal plane forefoot varus
"attitude" does exist, could it be interpreted as a
sagittal plane abnormality in which either the medial forefoot is
hypodeclinated or the lateral forefoot is hyper-
declinated ( i.e. lateral column cavus ) ??
Anxious to know what you think,

PS: When you answer, keep in mind that my son, Ken, and I are
hopeless "cavophiles"
