Dear Paul,
>From the information you have given, this appears to be highly unethical,
and if funding bodies are involved, fraudulent as well. This can only lead
to ill-will from all parties that are, or may become, involved.
I can only sit here in despair when I hear about this type of behaviour!
How does everyone else feel?

Subject: Charges & Chairsides
Dear all,
I've recently returned from a meeting on chair-side appliances at
Birmingham UCE.
One speaker commented that he charges ?150 for his 'casted' Orthotics AND
also for his chairsides, which only cost him about ?20. We took this to be
additional to assessment fees etc. I feel he spotted the dropped jaws and
commented he made this chair-side appliance mark up happily, stated
patients don't know the difference and it was 'great'.
Does anybody else sit uneasily with this? Are there any guidelines for
pricing Podiatric Biomechanics in the UK ( or anywhere )? I personally
don't mark up orthotics ( I feel the lab marks up for its expertise before
they get to me ) but charge a so-called 'respectable' consultation rate (
similar to other U.K professions allied to medicine ).
What do you think?
Cheers
