Hello there,
My name is John-Paul Babbington, 26 yrs old & from London (UK), and I am
"very new" to podiatry. I am sure you are all sick of hearing from potential
students and laymen but here goes anyhow.
I am trying to change my career from derivative accountancy to podiatry,
and therefore have researched the industry itself and the comments &
opinions of
it's pracitioners. I know I will succeed in the end, but I find it amazing
that
there is almost an invisible barrier for future applicants.
Here in the London area the availabilty of both State and Unregd courses
has dropped you will be aware of the closure of the Uni of Westminster
polyclinic
and the Scholl Training course has been wound up.
(I noted the comments on this mailing list concerning Unregd podiatrists,
and found it heartening that there is a some sense of "brotherness")
The reasons for the closures I would imagine finance related and the result
have
increased the pressure on both the London Foot Hospital and it's applicants
for the SRCH course. Couple this fact with the Podiatry Bill and it's impact
for
Unregd, I see an Industry in great change.
The apparent lack of recognition of the State for the far reaching work and
important research that Podiatrists carry out and the squeeze on potential
applicants for the future worries me for the future of health care provision
in the area.
I hope I haven't offended anyone and made some sort of sense !
Jp
